...and why did I not know of one of the most extraordinary historical figures in world religions until now?!
Easy answers: a Western, Judaeo-Christian-centric educational system caused this particular blind spot; then compounded by an overall incuriosity about the history of non-JC religions and cultural traditions.
Inexcusable.
But nothing that can't be remedied by catch-up study, reading, integration. The cliché applies here, in spades: BLTN.
