"The Overstory"

So the time has come to pick up this book again (I started on it perhaps a year and a half ago, but general life and work intruded), and read it.

And this time, read it in a new way: with the companionship of someone else. And this is the way I put it to them:

Perhaps I should attempt this some other way. I think I know what that way is: to read "The Overstory," but in your company. But if I should do that, a warning: I would not be searching for synthesis, necessarily. I know you would be quite brilliant and profound at that. What I would be needing from you is: surprise.

...what "this"? Well, that's gist for another blog post -- and it's something I've been gesturing at already {both vaguely and specifically}, in these strings of posts here in escarpment since its beginnings in late March of this year.

Powers' novel had been serving as a stand (along with the Wulf and Kuper) for one of my external monitors; and I just replaced it with Powers' latest work, so as to crack open the former's leaves and branches now. ::chuckle::
