San Francisco as literary art
William Saroyan's famous characterization of "San Francisco itself as art" finds itself again in a new community mural at the Marina Branch of the SFPL, one of my 3 neighborhood library branches (along with Golden Gate and North Beach).
"San Francisco itself is art, above all literary art. Every block is a short story, every hill a novel. Every home a poem, every dweller within immortal. That is the whole truth."
...which is the case, in my so-far 4-year experience of living in this city, and walking its many hills and varied neighborhoods. Near my very own neighborhood are two hill parks named after poets (George Sterling, and Ina Coolbrith) and a couple more parks named for Michelangelo and Joseph Conrad.
