Samādhi of the Lay Sacraments
::chuckle::
Continuing to bring them with me on my walks.
Is it sacrilegious to prop a loupe on Gandhi's big toe, or on top of Buddha's head? I think not! ;-)
As any akamai SF resident knows, this statue of the Mahatma is at the Ferry Building Terminal in the Embarcadero, on the plaza near Pier 2. Arranged the sacraments at Gandhi's feet, and sat zazen there for a while, listening to the cries of seagulls and the murmurations of humans nearby, the Bapu's saintly visage beaming down from the warm afternoon blue.
After, I walked down the Embarcadero a while then hopped on the Muni (N), transferring to the T-Sunnyside at the Caltrain station; got off at 3rd and Evans, walking down to the Bay to a park I'd never been to before, the newish Heron's Head Park, which is nearby to the even newer India Basin Shoreline Park.
Walked through it to find the Buddha shrine underneath a small tree, which had quite a few offerings and arrangements on it already; added my 3 sacs while I sat zazen in front of it, and then later by it -- I already know I will come here for a sunrise-watch sit, sometime soon. The 19 Shipyard, the outbound of which is near my neighborhood has a nearby stop (and terminus!).
Here's the view from the path by the Buddha-tree shrine... facing the East Bay, with Alameda Island and downtown Oakland on the left, and the tiny (from here) peak of Mt. Diablo in the far distance directly ahead:
...and, walking back to the bus stop at around half past 4, looked behind me to see the almost-full mahina rising above the Recology warehouse on the wharf, where all of San Francisco's recycling goods are processed, to be shipped off elsewhere across the globe (for further, final processing) to be repurposed. The tide was ebbing by that time:
