escarpment

finding the heart-stone

This happened a couple days ago.

Walking down Polk Street, passing Golden Gate and nearing the Civic Center, this small black object caught my eye; at first, thought it was a black nut fallen from the tree, but on second glance saw it was a small, shiny, stone.

Unusual... as such stones are more typically found in masses of 'em, ornamentally landscaped. I bent down to pick it up and inspect it more closely, and was immediately taken by its uncanny heart-shaped form. It had density and substance, too.

So, I inherited it from the cosmos, took it home to wash later, and it now belongs in my set of lay sacraments which includes a loupe (gift of Jon Sullivan's), a mala (gift of Sonam Tsering's), a flat stone from Crissy Field's beach.

The 4 Noble Truths? ::chuckle:: Perhaps.
