an artist lives there
[ On Green Street between Taylor and Mason, this quirky gem of a housefront... ]
I almost didn't see it as, walking briskly downhill, I was marveling at the cloudscape above and beyond the Transamerica Pyramid and the invisible Bay in the distance. And the first thing that caught the edge of my left eye as I passed 840 Green Street was the tiny but self-assured assertion on the side door: "ENTRÉE DES ARTISTES."
So of course I screeched to a halt, proceeding to look at everything. The diorama of radically diverse images from the artist's travels (& safaris?) arranged on the garage door display (most intentionally designed, I'm sure!) was fascinating, as was the whimsical placement of teensy human and animal figurines along the bottom frames of some of the photos.
Then what looked like a stylized tiny mailbox or even tinier Little Free Library along the railing on the left side of the driveway caught my eye. And what I found on the inside as I opened it, simply adorable.
Everything about this artist's facade was delightful, and I'm glad I stopped to look. After spending some minutes taking pictures, I waved goodbye at the tiny CCTV camera on the wall, giving thanks to the residents of this home, for the ethic of their generous sharing of art to any random passerby or member of the civic polity and agora.
